Experience the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the densest wildlife population in Africa. This compact 2-day safari takes you into the heart of the crater floor where you can spot the Big Five in a single day.
Your safari begins in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha. After a short briefing with your safari guide, you will drive towards Tarangire National Park, famous for its large elephant population, ancient baobab trees, and diverse wildlife.
Upon arrival, you will enter the park and begin your game drive. As you explore the park's beautiful landscapes, you may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, antelopes, and various species of birds. With some luck, you may also spot lions and other predators.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated picnic site before continuing with your afternoon game drive. Your guide will help you discover the best wildlife-viewing areas while explaining the animals, vegetation, and ecosystem of the park.
In the late afternoon, you will leave Tarangire and drive towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you will spend the night at your selected accommodation.
After an early breakfast, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for an exciting morning game drive.
The crater is one of Tanzania's most spectacular wildlife destinations and is home to a remarkable concentration of animals. During your game drive, you can expect to see zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, hippos, elephants, gazelles, and other wildlife. The crater is also one of the places where you have a good chance of spotting lions and, with luck, the endangered black rhinoceros.
You will stop at a designated picnic area for lunch while enjoying the spectacular surroundings of the crater. After lunch, continue with a short game drive before ascending from the crater.
In the afternoon, you will begin your drive back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening. Your safari ends with a drop-off at your hotel or another agreed location in Arusha.
The best time for safaris in Tanzania is during the dry season from June to October, when animals gather around water sources and vegetation is sparse for easier viewing. January to February is also excellent, especially for calving season in the Serengeti. However, safaris can be enjoyed year-round, with the green season (November to May) offering lush landscapes and fewer crowds.
Essential items include: neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, beige), comfortable walking shoes, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, binoculars, a camera with zoom lens, and a light jacket for early morning game drives. We recommend layering as temperatures can vary throughout the day. Avoid bright colors and dark blue/black (which can attract tsetse flies). We provide binoculars and field guides on every safari.
